Call me a cynic but i find it hard to believe in the first case that it's coincidence their reports are identical. I think the prof will agree that you had reason for suspicion.

In the second instance, i agree with the student - what an idiot!! The first guy was pretty dumb to share his work but the second was just completely stupid.

Students - what can you say?!
